For a better fitting door, the hinges have to be adjusted. There are
several
reasons why a hinge has to be adjusted. Heavy doors tend to lean away
from
the top hinge and close to the bottom hinge. |
|
Most doorways are not level for one reason or another, so the hinges
have
to be adjusted to center the door in the doorway. In the winter time
wooden
doors tend to swell and should not be planed, because they shrink in
the
summer. So adjusting the hinges is the proper solution. If a door is
hung
properly the door is planed 3/16 of an inch smaller than the opening. A
metal or fiberglass door comes from the factory 3/16 of an inch
undersized. |
|
The problem with adjusting the hinges with a crescent wrench, pliers ,
etc. you can scratch the plating off the hinge and you can only bend a
small portion of the knuckle at a time using these tools. In my 33
years
in the business, there has not been a tool on the market for adjusting
hinges. We have designed and have a patent pending on a solid steel
tool
which fits over the entire knuckle of the hinge and allows the hinge to
be bent exactly in the crease, leaving no marks or scratches on the
hinge. |
